Eid Al Fitr


The word eid refers to ‘festivity’ whereas fitr means ‘breaking the fast’. Eid ul fitr is an Islamic occasion that is celebrated after every Ramadan when the Muslims undergo a period of fasting from dawn to sunset throughout 29 to 30 days. It is celebrated on first of shawal. Eid ul fitr has an obligatory Islamic prayer on which all the Muslims offer their prayer in mosques near their houses. Muslim celebrates this eid with extreme spirit and zeal. The whole month of Ramadan along with fast teaches us patience,stops from evil and leads us to goodness and the process of undergoing through fast not only cleans our body but also our souls and mind. A research has been carried out in Russia that psychotic patients have been passed through the process of fasting and the ratio of their diseases have been reduced and eliminated.Referring to the history of eid ul fitr, It was celebrated in Madina when the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) arrived Medina from the flight of Mecca.People entertains themselves with recreation. It is usually celebrated for three days. The Moon is sighted by the Hilal Committee on 29th or 30th of Ramadan and then declaration of eid ul fitr is held with the vision of moon. Those who sit on Itakaf comes out. On the eid day Muslims wake up early in the morning, offer their fajar’s salat and usually go to graveyards for praying Fatayah. Before the eid prayer starts, they take shower, wear new clothes and apply perfumes. The day usually starts with a sweet breakfast. After offering the eid prayer sadaqat-ul-fitr, which is usually a charity is given to poor. After the prayer muslims vist their relatives, friends and meet the people in community and wish them with eid wishes. Eid gift which basically refers to Eidi is given to children.Girls and especially the children are very excited this occasion. Girls wear beautiful clothes apply mehandi on their hands and wear bangles and jewellery. Many delicious foods are cooked on the day. The whole family gathers forgetting their differences and have lots of funs. Eid is a blessing of God and a symbol of happiness and merriment.
